The eccentric American billionaire, who heads Tesla and SpaceX, said that his plans for the exploration of Mars inсlude the idea of using cryptocurrency. In his opinion, a trip to this potentially habitable planet is planned in the future.
“It would make sense to use some kind of cryptocurrency on Mars. But you won’t be able to use Bitcoin because transaction verification takes too long,” Elon Musk announced to listeners of an online broadcast on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
However, to make financial transactions on Mars, using Bitcoin is not the best option due to slow transaction confirmation. Elon Musk suggested that on Mars it would be worth using some kind of localized cryptocurrency, and perhaps, with certain difficulties, Bitcoin would be available in small quantities.
“But it’s not easy. There must be something localized on Mars. You may be able to use Bitcoin to some extent, but it will be difficult to use it in large quantities on the planet,” reasoned the billionaire crypto enthusiast.
During the discussion, Musk agreed with Bitcoin developer Matt Corallo that the slowness of BTC transactions could be solved using a localized Lightning Network. Elon Musk has also expressed his dream of building a colony on Mars by 2050, arguing that it is necessary for the survival of humanity.
It is important to note that SpaceX has received permission to launch the DOGE-1 lunar satellite, payment for which will be made with the DOGE cryptocurrency. Thus, DOGE-1 will become the first lunar satellite, the cost of which will be paid for with cryptocurrency. Interestingly, Elon Musk announced his attitude towards cryptocurrency, saying that he will no longer pay attention to it.
